Offered Saudi university students a free year of Gemini Pro

Done withGemini
Free tier From $4.99/mo

Also used: Gemini Notebook (formerly NotebookLM)

What they did

Google, with Saudi Arabia's International Center for AI Research and Ethics, offered university students aged 18 and over a free one-year Gemini Pro subscription. Arab News lists NotebookLM audio summaries, Veo 3 video, research tools and 2 TB of storage among the benefits.

How it went

No uptake figures were reported. The article says the subscription was worth about $229, the offer ran until 3 November 2025, and Google Trends showed Saudi search interest in AI, studying and universities up 80% over two months.

Worth knowing

A promotional offer, not a study result. The deadline has passed and Google has run newer student offers since, so check current terms before relying on it.

Pieter Maes indexed 100 non-fiction books and gave Claude Code command-line search tools so it could chain short excerpts from different books around one idea, which he calls trails, instead of using a fixed multi-step pipeline.

Showed how to study a slide-heavy medical course with NotebookLM

Waleed recalls an oral medicine course with about 180 slides per topic across roughly 12 lectures, then shows how he would now load the files into NotebookLM, chat with chosen sources, and generate a mind map, a quiz and an Egyptian-Arabic podcast-style overview on root canal treatment.
