Best AI agent for research reports with sources
Short answer: ChatGPT scores highest in our provisional ranking: on paid plans ChatGPT Work handles multi-step research and returns a finished report (it cannot log in to sites, so paywalled sources are out), Arabic output is strong, and Plus is $20/mo. Gemini is almost level and the cheapest paid route (Google AI Pro $19.99/mo, US price, with a free tier), and Perplexity is the easiest place to start with sources shown on every answer (Pro $17/mo billed annually). Manus and Genspark go further, turning the research into slides or a website, but spend credits per task. Scores are editorial estimates, not test results.

Research {NICHE, e.g. cloud kitchens} in {REGION} for {WHO WILL READ THIS, e.g. a restaurant owner deciding whether to enter}. Deliver one document file (Markdown or Word), maximum 2 pages, in {LANGUAGE}.
Structure:
1. One-paragraph summary with the 3 facts the reader must know.
2. Market size and trend for the last 3 years and the next 2, with the source next to every number. Use USD only.
3. A comparison table of 5 players ({COMPANIES YOU ALREADY KNOW, or write “choose the 5 largest”}): company, what they sell, pricing or business model, target customer, funding or owner, one weakness. Every cell with a number gets a source number.
4. Three risks or open questions for the reader.
5. Numbered source list: title, organisation, year, direct URL.
Rules:
- Prefer primary sources: company pages, regulators, official statistics, annual reports, named analyst reports. Use news only for dates and funding. No blogs, no content farms, no sources you cannot link.
- If you cannot find a reliable number, write “no reliable source found” instead of estimating.
- Do not invent companies or URLs. Open each URL before citing it.
- Stay within the 2-page limit; cut detail, not sources. 🧪 Ready-made fix (recipe)

FAQ
Are the sources real?
Usually, but check them: open every link that matters, read the abstract or page yourself, and drop any claim whose source does not say what the report says. Deep research modes cite web pages, not only peer-reviewed papers. For academic references with paper databases, see our research with references ranking.
Can I get the report in Arabic?
Yes. ChatGPT, Gemini and Claude produce long Arabic reports well; Perplexity is weaker in Arabic. Ask for Modern Standard Arabic, give the audience and length, and ask it to keep source titles in their original language so you can find them.
How long does a deep research run take and how many do I get?
A run takes several minutes and uses a monthly or daily quota that is smaller on free and cheaper plans; the quota moves often, so read each pricing or help page on the day you decide. Manus and Genspark charge credits per task instead.
Which of these are free?
Free plan confirmed on the official pricing page: ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Claude, Manus, Genspark.
