Is this image or video real or AI? Tools to check
Short answer: No tool can prove a clip is real. Google's SynthID Detector and Gemini's built-in check can confirm a SynthID watermark from Google (and, on SynthID Detector, partners such as OpenAI, NVIDIA and Kakao); 'no watermark found' does not mean the file is real. Hive Detect gives probabilities, not proof. Combine a detector with reverse image search and the original source.
You saw a clip or photo and want to know whether it was made or edited with AI.

FAQ
Can any tool tell for sure if a video is AI?
No. Watermark checkers (SynthID) can only confirm content that carries their watermark; Google's own help page says 'no watermark' means it wasn't made by Google AI but could have been made by other AI. Probability detectors can be wrong both ways. Treat every result as one clue.
What else should I check?
Google's help page suggests looking for visual artifacts (garbled text, hands, teeth, shadows), running a reverse image search to find the original, and checking metadata if you have the original file rather than a screenshot.
Which of these are free?
Free plan confirmed on the official pricing page: Gemini, Hive Detect. Not verified: SynthID Detector.
